Not that you asked but…
Not that anybody has asked my opinion but I have two suggestions for sharing pictures and blogging.
For sharing pictures with folks I recommend ShutterFly.
Pros
* They give you unlimited storage for your pictures.
* Only people you choose to share your pictures with can actually view them.
* When you share an album folks don’t have to create an account to view it. They just click the link you sent them and bam, pictures baby.
* You can order prints, greeting cards, etc. So can your guests.
* It’s a free service with a lot of members so I don’t think it’ll disappear anytime soon.
Cons
* Once you upload your high resolution digital file you can never download it. So this isn’t the place to archive your pictures, it’s just a good place to share pictures and order prints. You still need to archive your pictures somewhere that you control (CD, DVD, etc).
If you’d like to start your own blog I recommend blogger. This site is not run by blogger I use MoveableType which is great if you have space to host the blog and you have the time to set everything up. If I had it to do over again I would probably forgoe the whole self-hosting thing and go with blogger – I still might someday. Anyway, on to the pros and cons.
Pros
* Unlimited space – write to your little hearts content.
* Nice site templates to choose from and customize if you so choose. In fact, my site style borrows heavily from a blogger site style.
* Unlike a static website, with blogger visitors can comment on your posts – if you choose to enable that feature.
* You can include pictures in your entries.
* Basically everything I have done on this site you can do more easily through blogger.
* Blogger.com is owned by google.com, so I don’t see it going away here soon.
Cons * Your blog will contain advertising links. But hey a brother’s gotta eat, right? If you just can’t tolerate the ads, like all problems in life, you can pay to make them go away. Typepad.com is one pay blogging service I know of. Blogger used to have a blogger pro pay service, but I think they may have ousted it because I can’t find it now.
So that’s my two cents and I share because I care and because now that I live 3,000 miles away from everyone it’d be super-groovy if everybody I knew had their own little wailing wall. A place friends and family could share their thoughts and photos with our small group of friends and a few other people. And if all of that wasn’t enough to motivate you, if my skills of persuasion and my heart-felt plea wasn’t enough to get you excited there’s one more thing you should know – women really dig guys that blog. I mean I’m not saying that I endorse the idea of “groupies” or whatever; I’m just telling you that it’s just something you should be aware of.
