   Interesting. I took the test and found, based on their statements and the way I responded to the framing of those statements, that you and I have identical political views. I charted in the exact spot you did. What’s funny about that is we seem to have opposite political views, for the most part. So, you might be “ultra liberal politically” after all. Even so, I still love you anyway ; )

   Some of their statements can’t be answered with just a “disagree” or “agree” response. One example is the one where they say “It’s natural for children to keep some secrets from their parents.” I answered that I agree. I do think it’s in a child’s nature (and most adults for that matter) to keep secret things they are ashamed of or want to keep private. An example of this might be if a child ate a whole package of oreo cookies before dinner. Obviously, he’s not going to tell his parents about this and keeping that secret is natural. However, I think the essence of their statement likely relates to one’s views on teenage abortion. That’s my guess based on the other statements surrounding it. Since I answered that I agree with that statement, one would assume I lean toward the liberal side. One would be wrong.

   While I do agree that it’s “natural” for children to keep secrets from their parents, a secret of that nature (teenage abortion) that doesn’t mean that I agree with it in all cases. If my child has a crush on a boy and doesn’t want me to know about it, that’s one thing. If my child has a crush and gets pregnant by that boy, that’s something else entirely. (As an aside, it is interesting that they point out in their statement that we’re talking about CHILDREN.) Ultimately, a parent or guardian is responsible for the health and mental/emotional well being of their children. Parents should have the right to know what medical care and procedures are being performed on their kids.

   That’s one example of what I found as a potentially misleading response on my part, but I tried to respond to the statements just taking them at face value. But a lot of those have a “yeah . . . but” feeling to them.

   (For the record, I’m not saying that all liberals agree with teenage abortion. It was just one of those statements that on the surface I answered one way but with explanation would get a different response from me.)

   I must say, though, you always find such interesting stuff for us to see.

   Yeah I know what you mean generally when I take tests like that I end up with the feeling that I could have just as easily answered the exact oposite to many of the questions.

   I was actually suprised (as it sounds like you were) that I was that far to the left. I consider myself a southern democrat at heart but my score was more Walter Mondale-ish, which wasn’t what I was expecting.

   But hey, at least we eneded up in the same quandrant as Gandhi and not Hitler and Stalin
