   70/month? Where are you calling, China? Ours is only 30 a month, we mainly use our cell phones. Vonage is a good idea though. Ive never used it, do you have a house alarm? If so, moving to internet based phone service is going render “Calling The Cops” useless. Thats the only reason we havent switched.

   Yeah, you’d think we were calling from a ship in the middle of the Pacific or something. We pay $50 just for local service and $5.95 for long distance service. After taxes, inside wiring (?) and emergency service we’re paying around $70/month. And that’s if we don’t pick up the receiver. Every minute of long distance is $.05/minute. I think our local phone company (CenturyTel) has a monopoly in our area. Not that I have anything against monopolies

   As for the Internet phone people – I think they have the whole emergency thing worked out now. My biggest concern about switching is just the quality and reliability of the service, but considering how rarely we use our land line the idea of paying $15/month for phone + long distance is sounding better and better to me.
