If you are interested in Campbell's thesis, I recommend two short essays: Myth Became Fact by C.S. Lewis and Man and Mythologies by G.K. Chesterton? Also, Campbell is the most famous 'popularizer' of myth, but he has been criticized in academic/university circles for much of his research and many of his conclusions. That doesn't necessarily invalidate his thesis, but you should know his scholarly reputation is in dispute.
