Not wishing her political contribution to society be limited to four years in the US Congress Cynthia, with the support of the Green Party, have decided it would be a good idea for her to become the President of the United States. 

So let’s keep our fingers crossed on this one.

The idea to divide Iraq isn’t a new idea.  If you don’t like this idea what’s yours – and “stay the course” isn’t a plan it’s a naive mantra.

THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE IS CLEAR: Surface temperatures on Earth are warming at a pace that signals a decisive shift in the global climate, one expected to last for centuries. Previous epochal changes of climate, such as the Ice Age that ended 11,500 years ago, were set in motion by natural causes, variations in Earth’s orbit that affect the amount of sunlight warming the planet. In those cases, the cycles of cooling and warming unfolded slowly, over the course of millennia. This episode is different.

In the end, global warming presents the greatest test we humans have yet faced. Are we ready to change, in dramatic and prolonged ways, in order to offer a workable future to subsequent generations and diverse forms of life? If we are, new technologies and new habits offer some promise. But only if we move quickly and decisively – and with a maturity we’ve rarely shown as a society or a species. It’s our coming-of-age moment, and there are no certainties or guarantees. Only a window of possibility, closing fast but still ajar enough to let in some hope.

It’s time to leave the war we never should have started. The Iraq civil war will continue and ultimately our puppet government will fail and Iraq may well divide into three separate countries. But what happens to Iraq is out of our hands now just like it always was. Iraq’s destiny is still in the hands of the Iraqi people. There’s no reason for Americans to continue to train terrorists and die fighting a fight that ultimately has to be decided by Iraqis. It’s time to bring our troops home.

It’s time to end the Iraq mistake 05/30/2006

Call it what you like what we see today is part of the progression towards the inevitable conclusion of a three state nation where Iraq once stood. A conclusion we could have engineered with a $0.25 bullet, a sniper rifle, and one special forces soldier instead of the $300 billion dollar price tag and 40,000 lives paid to date.

I’m obviously no expert on foreign policy affairs, but it still seems to me that – given the deeply rooted sectarianism in Iraq and the virtual tug-of-war between neighboring countries over the future of Iraq – the country will eventually be informally or explicitly divided into three distinct regions or nations. And I think that the most humane thing we can do is facilitate this process rather than “staying the course” until a democratic administration is voted into office in 2008 and then “cutting-and-running” creating a security vacuum where more people die than would have otherwise.
